The Egyptian government just sentenced the Muslim Brotherhood thug, Mohammad Mursi, with a twenty year long prison sentence as he stood inside of a cage. According to one report:
Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohammed Morsi was sentenced to 20 years in prison on charges arising from the killing of protesters on Tuesday, nearly three years after he became Egypt’s first freely elected president.
Morsi stood in a cage in court as judge Ahmed Sabry Youssef read out the ruling against him and 12 other Brotherhood members, including senior figures Mohamed el-Beltagy and Essam el-Erian. The sentencing was broadcast live on state television.
The men were convicted on charges of alleged violence, kidnapping and torture stemming from the killing of protesters during demonstrations in 2012. They were acquitted of murder charges, which carry the death sentence.
A lawyer for some of the defendants said they would appeal.
Displaying a four-finger salute symbolizing resistance to the state’s crackdown on Islamists, defendants chanted “God is Greatest” after the verdict was read.
The ruling is the first against Morsi, who says he is determined to reverse what he calls a military coup against him in 2013 staged by then army chief, now president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
“His trial has been a travesty of justice, which has been scripted and controlled by the
government and entirely unsupported by evidence,” Amr Darrag, a former minister under Morsi, said in a statement from İstanbul.Morsi’s son, Osama Morsi, said his father plans a comeback despite the jail sentence.
State news agency MENA said Morsi was taken by helicopter from the makeshift courtroom on the outskirts of Cairo to Borg al Arab prison near Alexandria, where he has been held for more than a year.Morsi faces charges in four other cases including leaking secrets to Qatar, conspiring with the Palestinian militant group Hamas to destabilize Egypt, and organizing a jailbreak during the 2011 uprising against Hosni Mubarak.
I am sure Turkey is going to be working to get Mursi liberated from prison. Remember that Erdogan has recently been pushing for the release of Mursi from prison, saying:
Mr Morsi is a president elected by 52 percent of the votes. They should give him his freedom
As Shoebat.com has shown before, Egypt has accused Ankara of “backing terrorism,” while Turkey has dubbed Morsi’s ouster a “coup”. And now President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan harshly criticized Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Monday after Egypt asked Interpol to issue a red notice for a Qatar-based pro-Muslim Brotherhood cleric, saying science cannot be subservient to politics.
“This person, who came to power through a coup, shows up and gives instructions to Interpol. A step has been taken with an order to Interpol to seek the chairman of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, Youssef al-Qaradawi, with a red notice. What kind of act is this?” Erdoğan asked during an address at the 5th Religion Council hosted by Turkey’s Religious Affairs Directorate, adding: “Science cannot be subservient to politics; but politics can be subservient to science.”
Interpol issued a red notice for Qaradawi last week upon the request of Egypt’s coup regime. According to Interpol’s website, the notice on the 88-year-old Egypt-born cleric was issued on charges of “incitement and assistance to commit intentional murder, helping prisoners to escape, arson, vandalism and theft.”
The leaders of Egypt’s banned Muslim Brotherhood, who were asked to leave Qatar in September after pressure from other Gulf Arab countries, relocated to Turkey, following a welcoming statement by President Erdoğan, according to reports circulating in Turkish media.
Ankara is one of the most vocal critics of the Egyptian administration, which came to power after the military toppled former President Mohammed Morsi, a politician from the Muslim Brotherhood, last summer. President Erdoğan has been taking every opportunity to criticize Egypt’s former military leader and current President Sisi.
Turkey’s refusal to accept Morsi’s ouster prompted the new Egyptian leadership to cut ties with Turkey and expel the Turkish ambassador from Cairo. Ankara responded in kind, declaring Egypt’s ambassador to Turkey persona non grata.
Moreover, it would not be surprising to see the US government itself defend Morsi. As Shoebat.com has reported before, the Egyptian government sentenced to death several Muslim Brotherhood terrorists, 14 of whom are leaders, including Mohammad Badie.
Now, Muslim Brotherhood sources have revealed that the terrorist organization has declared that it will be sending representatives to the United States to push for American intervention to stop the executions of the 14 Muslim Brotherhood leaders, including Mohammad Badie. According to one Middle East report the Muslim Brotherhood will be sending its agent, Abdalmugod Dardiry, to the United States and Europe to conduct negotiations.
It would not be difficult to believe that the US, alongside Turkey, could actually intervene on behalf of Morsi.
